St Fagans Cricket Club, on the outskirts of Cardiff, was the setting for the fourth annual Tom Maynard Trust Day on Friday 19th August as Glamorgan’s 1997 County Championship-winning team came together again to play the local side, with the profits going to the Tom Maynard Trust. The weather did its best to dampen spirits but it couldn’t prevent a full game taking place, with more than £13,000 raised for the Trust.
Matthew Maynard said:
“It was a tremendous occasion, and one which we hope everyone enjoyed. The atmosphere was fantastic and certainly Sue, Ceri, Pat and the family had a really good time. We’re so grateful to everyone at St Fagans – especially Jane and Rob John and Dave Harris – for working so hard on behalf of the Trust, along with Richard Adler, who kept everything running so well on the day, and the magnificent Rod Woodward for speaking. We also appreciate the support of everyone who came along, all those who bid for auction items, and particularly the sponsors, Abbey Glass. It was fantastic to have all of the 1997 squad together again, and especially to see Adrian Dale, who had travelled all the way from New Zealand to be with us. We had a great time reminiscing and we were grateful too to Mark Cosgrove for coming down from Leicester to play. The whole occasion means so much to the family and it also enables the Trust to continue doing its work in supporting young sportsmen and women across the UK. We look forward to the fifth occasion next summer!”
