St Fagans Cricket Club, on the outskirts of Cardiff, was again the venue for the fifth annual Tom Maynard Trust Day last June as a Matt Maynard Invitation XI played the local side, with the profits going to the Tom Maynard Trust. In all, more than £12,000 was raised on the day, which means that, before costs, over £50,000 has now been raised since the first of these days took place in September 2013. The 2018 fundraiser takes place on Friday 29th June.
Matt Maynard said:
“I know a lot of people really look forward to this day every year and last June we saw another great occasion with a fantastic atmosphere. We’re so grateful to everyone at St Fagans – especially Jane and Rob John and Dave Harris – for continuing to work so hard on behalf of the Trust, along with Richard Adler, who keeps everything running so smoothly on the day.
We were pleased to have my old team-mate Chris Cowdrey speaking and Alan Wilkins conducting the auction, and it was also wonderful to have Ed Jackson with us. Ed was one of Tom’s closest pals and we were thrilled that we were able to make a tangible contribution to his rehabilitation after an accident last Spring.
We always appreciate the support of everyone who comes along, all those who bid for auction items, and particularly to our regular sponsors, Abbey Glass, and all of the lads who came along to play. My team had a bit of a rugby theme in 2017 but we had a great bunch and I thought the boys adapted to a different sport pretty well!
The whole occasion means so much to me, Sue, Ceri and all the family and it also enables the Trust to continue doing its work in supporting young sportsmen and women across the UK. We look forward to number six in June!”
